Abstract

The existence of the world of technology that is developing in the digital era has made many changes, including education in universities. It also fosters the ability for independent learners. This study aims to: 1) describe the abilities that must be possessed by independent learners in the digital era; 2) describe the forms of strategies and learning styles possessed by independent learners; 3) describe the factors that affect the independent learning process. This research is a qualitative research with a case study approach. Data were collected by means of interviews and documentation. Data analysis uses Miles and Huberman analysis. The results of this study found that: 1. There are 4 abilities that must be possessed by independent learners, namely critical thinking, creative, collaborative and communicative; 2) Cognitive and metacognitive strategies and audio-visual learning styles; 3) The influencing factors are the motivation and learning environment of independent students.
