Abstract

This study investigates the significance of mindset and job functionalization on work motivation and interest in further studies amongeducation staff. Aquantitative approach is implemented to study 100 education staffat the State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. Respondents are those who have the civil servant status, with the minimum education background of bachelor degree, and are includedin grade II to IV ofstateemployement. This study uses latent variableswhichcannot be measured directly. Therefore, the analytical method applied is the Structural Equation Model-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The results demonstrated that all variables havea positive and significant effect, either directly or indirectly. Respondents have good perception in responding to the regulation of functionalization ofworkposition, have highmotivation and are willing to consider takingfurther studies. The findings become a real picture that it is crucial fortheuniversity to enhance employees’ work motivation and interest intakinng further study for the sake ofself-development. The university can actively suggestthe importance of work motivation and self-development to the staff. Strategies such as providing seminars, training programs, orby increasing the requirement for the higher position.
