Abstract

The phenomenon of the spread of ideology of radicalism and fundamentalism in this decade, especially in the productive ages, shows worrying signs, mainly manifested in radical movements. One example is the perpetrator of a bomb explosion at a church in Surabaya East Java in 2018, which involved one family, namely a husband and wife couple and their children. In 2021 the case of destruction of Christian tombs, namely destroying the symbol of the Cross in Solo carried out by students at Kuttab became an indication of how the phenomenon of intolerance showed warnings that penetrated in the productive age (BBC News Indonesia, 2021). It is also find that there are indications that universities are an important part in spreading the ideology of radical groups and terrorism. In this context, there are at least seven universities indicated as places for radical groups (Sirry, 2020).
Furthermore, refers to the results of a survey on radicalism which was conducted the Jakarta Institute for the Study of Islam and Peace (LaKIP) from October 2010 to January 2011, to 993 junior and senior high school students in 10 cities in Jakarta, we get surprising data information. In the results of the LaKIP survey, it was found that 48.9% of students in the Jakarta area (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi) expressed their approval of radical ideological actions (Munip, 2012). The survey results serve as a separate warning for the world of education, especially Islamic religious education institutions, as well as for educational institutions in general. This means that Islamic religious education institutions have serious challenges, challenges that we never imagined before
