Abstract

This research aims to reveal anthropological aspects, especially regarding the cosmological system of The Machinguenga Tribe who live in the Amazon wilderness, along with the secrets of their genuine life in the Sang Pengoceh novel. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive method, by applying reading and note-taking techniques, guided by literary anthropological theory approach. The results of the research are aimed at explaining aspects of the cosmological system of the Machinguenga Tribe through ethnographic studies and a study of their folklore, to reveal the universe (cosmos) of the Machinguenga Tribe—in the Sang Pengoceh (El-Hablador) by Mario Vargas Llosa—such as organic life, folktales, myths, legends, mytological creatures, local religion/folk religion, local medicine/folk medicine, customs and daily traditions, such as eating patterns, and sharing other rites, all of which are nicely and captivatingly recorded in the narration of the novel.
