Abstract
This paper examines the role of Islamic tertiary institutions in the process of halalization in Indonesia. Since the promulgation of law no. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee (UU JPH), products circulating in Indonesia must have a halal certificate. This poses a new challenge for halal stake holders in Indonesia. In the process of halal certification, the Halal Inspection Agency (LPH) is one of the most important elements. However, at least LPHs are officially established, making the acceleration of halalization in Indonesia slow. The establishment of a Halal Center at an Islamic university as an LPH is expected to have a significant impact on halalization in Indonesia which is then believed to become a center for halal studies that brings together science and Islamic values.
