Abstract

The aim of this research is to understand the core values in building an excellentschoolculture, the madrasa head's rolein building an excellence madrasa culture and the madrasa head's strategy in building an excellence madrasa culture. This type of research is qualitative, using interview, observation and documentation data collection methods. The research was carried out at MadrasahAliyahAl-Irtiqo' International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) Malang. The research results are: 1) The core values of MA Al Irtiqo' excellence culture include excellencevalues, justice and equality, responsibility, independence and achievement, religiousness, akhlakul karimah and guided by the Quran and Sunnah, loyalty, social and cooperation. 2) The role of the head of MA Al Irtiqo' in building and developing a culture of excellence, positioning himself as an educator, supervisor, leader, innovator, creator, motivator and innovator. 3) Strategies for building and developing an excellence school culture include: Planning for the development of an excellenceschool values based on the school's vision, mission and goals, Strengthening the core values (basic values) of school culture, Strengthening leadership, managerial and improving school human resources, Establishing values, spirit and norms in schools,developing an excellenceschool programs, socialization, implementation, reinforcement with rewards and punishment, and evaluation and feedback
