Abstract

New terms have emerged in society as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Foreign language terms are also used more frequently, and when considered from a sociological perspective, the employment of foreign or new terms might create a split between people if they are not properly socialized. The goal of this study is to look at factors that influence the acceptability of new covid-19 terms in target language equivalence, specifically in the Indonesian context. The effects of the equivalent terms used by most people are not particularly pleasant to hear, and they are more widely accepted in their original English meanings. To understand this phenomenon, the current study synthesizes morphological and sociolinguistic approaches. This study takes a qualitative descriptive strategy, which entails describing the status of the study object based on the facts that appear. The new Covid 19 terms are the focus of this study. The goal of this study is to determine the pattern of acceptability of new Covid 19 terms in target language equivalence from the morphological and sociolinguistic viewpoints. During the Covid-19 pandemic, there are 34 data terms. The majority of new Covid-19 terms are derived from English, according to the findings. This is reasonable because it is a global disease, sometimes known as a pandemic that requires international response. When the equivalent findings in the target language feel natural and familiar to the reader/listener, new terms for COVID-19 are accepted. The target language's rules are followed in terms of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. New terms, on the other hand, are not accepted if the comparable results in the target language are not natural or feel natural, but there is a minor grammatical error or a minor difficulty with the usage of technical terms. How the terms equivalence is produced in Indonesian according to the norms of word formation, using a morphological viewpoint. While sociolinguistics considers how the acceptance of new term equivalency will be accepted in society. This study is expected to aid readers and linguistics activists by adding to the scientific treasures.
