Abstract
The history of the development of Islamic law is inseparable from the dynamics of the Muslim civilization itself. This study focuses on the movement for the revival of Islamic law after the Taklid and Jumud period. Islamic history is divided into three main periods: classical, medieval, and modern. The classical period (650–1250 AD) was a period of progress, while the middle period (1250–1800 AD) was a period of decline that included the rise of three great empires: the Ottomans, the Safavids, and the Mughals. The modern period (1800 AD-present) was marked by the rise of Muslims after the fall of Egypt to the West, which triggered an awareness of renewal in Islam. This realization arises from a stagnant state and an attempt to rise again as a power equal to the West. This article outlines the efforts and dynamics in the Islamic law reform movement and its impact on the development of contemporary Islamic law.
