Abstract
The fact that the level of Islamic financial literacy in general in Indonesia is still low. Sharia insurance as a financial institution needs to be researched regarding its literacy level as an effort to evaluate and develop it in the future. This study aims to measure the level of understanding and trust of the people of Malang city regarding sharia insurance. The findings of this research indicate that despite the understanding of the people of Malang city of the concept of sharia insurance is low, their level of trust in sharia insurance is in the good category high. This shows that a low level of understanding does not always have an impact on a low level of trust. The use of the term "sharia" can actually create a positive image for the public regarding development of insurance institutions. Therefore, the trust from the public given to sharia insurance should be used as a mandate to always maintain compliance with sharia principles. The findings of this study are useful as scientific data about the importance of building trust in sharia insurance not only from the emotional aspect but also literacy.
