Abstract

Please refrain from mutilating paper currency as it is dangerous and can lead to counterfeiting. This undermines economic stability and reflects weaknesses in law enforcement. Although efforts have been made to address this issue, there is still room for improvement. This research aims to investigate law enforcement efforts against the practice of mutilating Indonesian rupiah notes by the Representative Office of Bank Indonesia Malang. The study adopts an empirical juridical approach with a focus on legal sociology. Data is gathered through direct interviews, documentation, and literature study. The results reveal that the Representative Office of Bank Indonesia Malang has taken a proactive approach to educate the public, raise awareness, issue appeals, and collaborate with other law enforcement agencies. However, the practice of mutilating currency violates multiple provisions of Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency and incurs penalties. Additionally, perpetrators may face Islamic discretionary punishment, including imprisonment, fines, and other measures. This comprehensive legal framework underscores the severity of the offenses related to currency mutilation and the government's efforts to address such violations.
