Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyze messages from the Arabic caricatures on Instagram about Toufan Al-Aqsa and to explore the caricaturist ideology. Toufan al-Aqsa is a war between Israel and Palestinians since the Hammas attack on October 7, 2023. The research method uses Saussure's descriptive semiotics approach to elaborate the meanings of images, signs, and symbols in Arabic caricatures on @osamahajjaj, @hajjajcartoon, and @ma3bs Instagram accounts. The data collection technique uses direct observation on the Instagram account of an Arab caricaturist with a screenshot technique. The data that has been collected are analyzed with Saussure semiotics and Miles and Hubberman analysis: data condensation, data exposure, and conclusion drawn. As a result, three major topics were obtained in caricatures made by Arab caricaturists to depict and criticize Israel's attacks on Palestine, namely: criticism of genocide, criticism of attacks on journalists and media, and criticism of the international world. The caricaturist ideology that was excavated from the caricatures they made was the depiction of Israel as the occupiers, the Palestinian people as victims and fighters, and the hope of peace in the land of Palestine.
