Abstract

This qualitative case study is about EFL learners’ usage of fillers to improve their self-confidence in speaking practices. This study employed two EFL learners as the subjects of the study. They were chosen based on their speaking fluency and activeness in the group and class discussion. In the study, it was found that the two EFL learners employed fillers to handle their speaking problems. Fillers might help them handle their speaking challenges due to their linguistic elements shortage. This further might bring them to have more self-confidence in their speaking practices. Thus, fillers are substantial to handle EFL learners’ speaking problems impacting to learners’ improvement in their self-confidence in speaking practices.
