Abstract
This study aims to explore the influence of contextual semantic theory in developing Qirâ’ah al-Kutub skills for students in the Islamic Family Law program at UIN Maliki Malang. Conducted as field research with a descriptive qualitative approach, primary data were gathered from the Islamic Family Law program at the Faculty of Sharia, including Qirâ’ah al-Kutub course instructors, students, departmental documents, and observational data. Data collection techniques comprised document review, observation, interviews, and questionnaires, with data analysis utilizing Miles and Huberman's interactive analysis method and qualitative descriptive analysis using the Stanfive scale. The findings indicate that implementing Qirâ’ah al-Kutub instruction with a contextual semantic approach involves: (1) Preparation of Materials and Learning Resources, incorporating Language, Situational, Emotional, and Cultural contexts in syllabus development, indicators, and evaluation tools based on Mufradât (vocabulary); and (2) Learning Outcomes, encompassing active methods such as discussion, text analysis, case studies, role-playing, translation, and final projects. According to respondents, this approach significantly enhances comprehension of text meanings, fosters in-depth understanding, and clarifies the author’s intent. Furthermore, understanding semantic context enables students to interpret texts both literally and contextually, articulate linguistic elements, and improve interpretation skills, which are crucial in analyzing legal and religious texts.
