Abstract

This study examines the role of female Muslim leaders in pesantren and cyberspace, focusing on how they construct authority and form imagined communities. Employing a critical sociolinguistic approach, the research highlights the strategies these leaders use to navigate sociocultural and religious challenges while empowering their communities.
The findings reveal that female Muslim leaders effectively utilize digital platforms to amplify their voices, challenge stereotypes, and foster community engagement. Despite persistent barriers such as gender bias and limited access to resources, these leaders demonstrate resilience and adaptability in balancing cultural and religious expectations with modern leadership demands.
This research contributes to the understanding of gender, religion, and leadership in Southeast Asian Muslim societies. It provides practical insights for policymakers, educators, and organizations aiming to promote gender equality and support women leaders in diverse contexts. The study also calls for further exploration of the intersectionality of female leadership and the development of inclusive environments for their empowerment.
