Abstract

This study investigates the potential of chicken feather waste, a readily available and abundant agricultural by- product, as a sustainable source for high-performance amorphous carbon (a-C) materials. The a-C originated from chicken feather waste was prepared using the liquid phase exfoliation method with varying H2SO4 concentrations (0.5–2.0 M). Characterization techniques of the produced exfoliated amorphous carbon (EAC) showed the amorphous nature and revealed increased hydrogenated amorphous carbon upon higher H2SO4 concentrations. Exfoliation effectively reduced layer stacking and introduced defects, leading to enhanced conductivity. Dielectric analysis indicated space charge polarization, with the highest dielectric constant (~70) observed at EAC-1.5. These defects resulted in the highest DC and AC conductivities of 1.3 ×10 6 S/m and 1.8 × 10 4 S/m, respectively.
