Abstract
Indonesia has a rich biodiversity of medicinal plants, one of which is kepel (Stelechocarpus
burahol) which is known in traditional medicine as a body freshener and uric acid reliever.
Previous research has shown that Kepel leaf extract has potential as a neuroprotective agent for
primary mouse cell cultures. Phytochemical research is needed to detect and identify bioactive
compounds, which can be the basis for the development of pharmaceutical products or functional
foods. One reliable method for analyzing volatile and semi-volatile compounds from plants is Gas
Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Samples were collected from Sleman Regency,
D.I. Yogyakarta. Extraction was carried out by maceration method using ethanol solvent with a
sample:solvent ratio of 1:10 (w/v). Phytochemical content was analyzed using GC-MS (AOC-20i
Shimadzu). The results showed that the ethanol extract contained 15 compounds. The most
detected compounds were fatty acid esters, steroids and siloxanes.
