Abstract
The development of financial technology (FinTech) has streamlined economic activity and increased financial inclusion. However, it can have negative impacts if not balanced with good financial literacy. This study aims to explore the determinants of young people's online borrowing decisions, particularly on their mental and financial health. Using 597 responses, the data were analysed using a Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM). The results show that only technological and economic factors, such as perceived usefulness and digital financial literacy, have a significant positive effect on online loan use. Meanwhile, self-control and impulsive buying do not significantly influence online loan use. Furthermore, this study found no direct relationship between online loans and financial stress or mental health. These findings imply that online loans have become a lifestyle for young people who view them as services that facilitate their economic activities and do not cause financial stress.
