Abstract

This study aims to analyze the legal status of the sanad and contextualize the understanding of the educational hadith found in the book al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib through the lens of Musahadi HAM's hadith criticism methodology. The specific hadith examined superficially presents ambiguity and potential contradiction with the Qur’an. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a critical hadith study approach. The findings reveal two main results. First, through historical criticism, the hadith is established as authentic and acceptable, despite its Ahad Gharib status, as it satisfies the established rules for sanad and matan authenticity. Second, through eidetics criticis, the hadith is not interpreted as a total condemnation of the world, but rather as a universal critique of the materialistic orientation that severs human connection with divine values. The specific exceptions given for the ‘ālim and muta‘allim emphasize that knowledge is the key pillar that provides value to the world and serves as an ethical foundation for social transformation. Thus, the hadith functions as an ethical basis for contemporary education, urging the community to build a civilization rooted in knowledge and spirituality.
