Abstract

The mental health of Islamic boarding school students is a crucial aspect that plays a significant role in supporting their personal development. The community service program themed "Healthy Students: A Model of Empowering Peer Cosignificant role in supporting their personal developmentunselors Based on Islamic Boarding Schools", implemented by the UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang team at the Sabilurrosyad Islamic Boarding School, Gasek, Malang, aims to strengthen the mental health of Islamic boarding school students through the establishment of a peer counselling system. This activity was motivated by the increasing number of bullying and psychological stress cases in the Islamic boarding school environment, which impact the emotional well-being of students. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, all Islamic boarding school administrators, teachers, counsellors, and students were actively involved in the needs assessment, training, mentoring, and evaluation stages. The results showed an increase in the competence of student counsellors and in implementing empathetic communication, as well as the formation of a peer counsellor team that plays a role in supporting the Islamic boarding school's approach to student-friendly learning and achieving student mental health. Through this model, Islamic boarding schools are expected to become safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments, serving as positive examples for other Islamic boarding schools in developing Islamic values-based student empowerment and mental health.
