Abstract
This study aims to analyze the forms of emotional regulation of the main character in Najla Luthfi’s novel Ila Abi using Daniel Goleman’s theory of emotional intelligence. The focus of the study is directed at the aspect of emotional regulation as one of the key components of emotional intelligence. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative analysis, with data collected through close reading and note-taking techniques, and analyzed using an interactive qualitative approach. The findings reveal that the main character in Ila Abi demonstrates five principal forms of emotional regulation: (1) emotional resilience in coping with loss, (2) emotion regulation through spirituality, (3) self-control in relational conflicts, (4) restraint in facing social provocation, and (5) emotional optimism in overcoming trauma. These five forms indicate that emotional regulation plays a crucial role in maintaining inner balance, strengthening psychological resilience, and fostering healthier social relationships. This study is expected to enrich the field of literary psychology, particularly in uncovering the dynamics of emotional regulation in characters of Arabic literary works
