Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form of expressive speech in the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad in family interpersonal interaction and to explore the function of the expressive speech act. This descriptive qualitative research uses a pragmatic approach. The source of the data is taken from the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, which describes his speech to his wives in the book Kayfa 'Amilahumby Shaykh Muhammad Shalih al-Munajjad. The data were collected using the note-taking technique and then analyzed witha pragmatic approach to determine the form and function of the speech act. The analysis process involves three stages:data identification, contextualization, and meaning analysis. The results of the study show that there are three functions of expressive speech in the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, namely: expressingaffectionand praise, paying attention, and comfortingthe wives’ hearts. Thus, the Prophet Muhammad's expressive speech acts can serve as a reference for Muslim families in their interpersonal interactions with family memberstoday. In practical terms, this study has implications for the use of compassionate language in families, increased sensitivity to emotional needs, and conflict management with respect and empathy.
