Abstract

In this modern era, social media drags teenagers into a virtual reality filled with images and simulations. Teenagers are competing to get recognition from people around them for the sake of fame to justify all means, including buying followers, manipulating posts and even degrading themselves to be seen as famous. The Al Rawabi School for Girls Season 2 series represents a portrait of teenage girls trapped in a circle of simulacra and hyperreality created by social media. This research aims to analyze the form of simulacra that occurs in four stages of imaging, namely reflection of the image, denatures of the image, absence of image, no relation of image, and its influence on the lives of teenagers. The researcher used a qualitative approach for a deeper understanding and descriptive analysis of six episodes. The results of this study show that images on social media play a dominant role in shaping social media simulacra that affect teenagers' lives. The influence of this phenomenon, such as bullying, suicidal urges due to social exclusion, identity distortion due to the loss of boundaries between image and reality, and the growth of a consumptive banality. This study contributes to the study of Arabic language popular culture and media by applying Jean Baudrillard's postmodern theories of simulacra and hyperreality to the series Al Rawabi School for Girls Season 2. This study highlights how social media shapes and distorts adolescent identity through digital images and the culture of social validation. The novelty of this study lies in linking Baudrillard's theoretical framework to contemporary issues of social media among Arab adolescents, as well as offering new insights into the relationship between media, identity, and hyperreality in adolescent life in the digital era
