Abstract

Family resilience is an urgent issue amid domestic, social, economic, and psychological pressures experienced by urban Muslim families. This article examines the contribution of mosque-based Family Cornerin strengthening family resilience in five districts of Malang City through Jasser Auda's maqashid sharia systems approach. This qualitative field research uses a multisite design at five mosques: Masjid Agung Jami' Klojen, Masjid Darul Istiqomah Blimbing, Masjid Jami' Shirotol Mustaqim Lowokwaru, Masjid Al-Ikhsan Sukun, and Masjid Nashruddin Kedungkandang. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with Family Cornermanagers and counselors, supported by program documents and relevant regulations. The findings indicate that Family Cornercontributes in a measured and contextual manner through family literacy, premarital education, early conflict mediation, parenting assistance, and accessible socio-religious consultation. Each site shows a different role: Masjid Agung Jami' emphasizes literacy and religious learning; Darul Istiqomah strengthens mediation for couples at risk of divorce; Shirotol Mustaqim supports community harmony through preventive religious-social engagement; Al-Ikhsan develops education on early marriage prevention and counselor capacity; and Nashruddin expands access for clients beyond its immediate neighborhood. From Auda's perspective, Family Cornerreflects the six system features of maqashid, but its implementation remains uneven. Cognition, openness, multidimensionality, and purposefulness are visible in educational and counseling practices, while wholeness and interrelated hierarchy still requirestronger SOPs, case documentation, professional referral networks, and measurable impact evaluation. This article argues that Family Cornershould be understood not merely as a dispute-resolution unit but as a mosque-based support ecosystem that seeks to protect religion, life, intellect, lineage, dignity, and property while still depending on institutional strengthening.
