Abstract

Background: Hajj and Umrah pilgrims are vulnerable to health disorders, especially the elderly with chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and hyperuricemia. This community service aimed to conduct health screening and
improve knowledge through health education regarding health and nutrition during the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages. Methods: The activity involved 54 participants from Majelis Taklim Assalam in Malang City through health assessments (blood pressure, blood glucose, and uric acid), lecture-based counseling, and pretest-posttest evaluations. Results: Most participants were elderly (57.4%) and university graduates
(55.6%). The findings revealed that 35.2% had stage 1 hypertension, 5.6% had blood glucose levels >200 mg/dL, and 42.6% had hyperuricemia. The Wilcoxon rank test showed a significant increase in knowledge (p<0.05) after the health education session. Conclusion: Health assessments and counseling are effective strategies to promote and
prevent illness, supporting pilgrims in maintaining well-being during Hajj and Umrah.
