Abstract

The development of short video-based social media has changed the way speakers practice language, especially in multilingual societies such as Indonesia, which has a variety of regional languages and other foreign languages, leading to language mixing and even code-switching. Of course, this does not happen randomly, but is done to express the speaker's identity. This study will examine the general patterns, social functions of code-switching and code-mixing, and code-switching and code-mixing as acts of identity in the TikTok video @Lutfi_afansyah. A qualitative approach with a descriptive analysis model is in line with this research by listening to and recording code-switching and code-mixing in the video, then analyzing it through data reduction and presentation, and finally drawing conclusions. It was found that the general pattern of code-switching and code-mixing in the analyzed videos was in Indonesian with the insertion of English elements and also several regional languages. The social function of these code-switching and code-mixing patterns is to build a professional persona, a woke persona concerned with mental health, and a global lifestyle. Furthermore, code-switching serves as an indicator of identity as a critical corporate intern, part of the woke digital community, and as a local global youth.
