Abstract

The aims of this study are to determine the effect of age on levels of Lp-PLA2 plasma and aortic tissue rat (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar males. This research was conducted using a quasi-experimental methods, measurement of Lp-PLA2 levels and cell count performed in rats aged 12, 14, 18 and 22weeks. Levels of Lp-PLA2 serum or tissue is determined using the Elisa method Elisa kit produce by Cusabio. Observation of foam cells was conducted using frozen slices with oil red O staining to determine the effect of treatment. Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by LSD test and correlation analysis. The results showed that age affects the serum levelsof Lp-PLA2 very significantly (p<0.01) and significant effect on levels in aortic tissues (p<0.05). Levels of Lp-PLA2 serum and aortic tissue increases with increasing age of rats. Levels of Lp-PLA2plasma and aorta in rats age 12, 14, 18 and 22weeksinaortic tissue was 129.142 ng/ml; 139.646 ng/ml; 166.428 ng/ml; 193.786 ng/dl and in blood serum is 125.146 ng/dl; 175.788 ng/ml; 230.214 ng/dl and 228.786 ng/ml respectively. Levels of Lp-PLA2 in serum and aortic tissue correlated positively with the number of foam cells in aortic tissue.
