Abstract

This study aims to analyze the causality of class’ classification that occurred on the society of Pegaten in a novel ‘Kubah’ by Ahmad Tohari based on Marxist literary criticism theory. The exposure analysis includes: 1) the discussion of class’ structure on Pegaten society in novel ‘Kubah’ by using Marxist literary criticism theory based on paradigm of social class relation: a) identification of social background into the context of the occurrence, and b) identification of social classes, 2) the discussion of causal relationships between social classes in novel ‘Kubah’ by analysing social activities that occur among the characters; and 3) the impact of class social causality relationships on Pegaten society. Based on the analysis, we will find the form of social classes, ideology of class conscious, and positive and negative impacts of upper and lower class interaction in Pegaten society.
