Abstract
Experience the diversity that characterized a series of conflicts and violence in various areas, such as East Java, West Java, Ambon and Maluku, have raised concerns in the country, called by Hefner's rich of this pluralist endowments. On that basis, today Indonesia is not only known as a country with the motto of his Bhineka Tunggal Ika yet, but also nations with a number of challenges and problems arising from the existence of plurality. This dissertation using qualitative research design and approaches to examine the social construction of ethical pluralism NU, which is critical and systematic effort citizens nahdiyyin in East Java to achieve a fundamental understanding of religious plurality. Through this study is expected to be obtained about the conceptual understanding of religious pluralism of NU East Java that elaborated in the constitution of organizations and community thinking; other forms of active involvement in promoting and maintaining the values of religious pluralism; and psycho-social impact of ethical pluralism in the relation-internal and external relationships.
Field studies indicate that there is a contest in the magnitude-tation of religious pluralism in ethics NU East Java which has the potential to support the enforcement efforts of religious pluralism, or otherwise, threatens the future of pluralism itself. However, there are particular description of the character of heteroglossia in the idea and practice of religious pluralism as follows. First, NU has made the construction process of ideas and practices of religious pluralism in the context of a long social history and, through a dialectical process of theological, ideological, and socio-cultural. Conception of religious pluralism in the NU not only has roots theological and ideological adapted from the understand Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah, but also on the next phase is closely linked with the development discourse and political movements of civil society. Second, NU's involvement in promoting and maintaining the values of religious pluralism in East Java revealed a diverse picture, than that is responsive, counter-productive, and the biggest element of being silent (silent majority). Third, psycho-social impacts arising from the disparity the ethics of religious pluralism, at least, has shown a strengthening of contestation between conservative and progressive groups, and at the community level at least the pros and cons have been cause for concern in minority groups and marginal to the threat of weakening the power of civil society that has long been build commitment to democracy and concern for NU in protecting the marginalized.
