Abstract

This article aims to describe the form of social stratification, to reveal the causes of social stratification, and to understand the impact of social stratification on social classes in the novel Jejak Langkah by Pramoedya Ananta Toer based on Karl Marx's perspective. The type of the research is qualitative research. The data source of this research is the novel Jejak Langkah by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. The techniques of data collection are reading and taking a note. The techniques of data validation are to improve perseverance, triangulation, and peer discussions and expert discussions. The techniques of data analysis consist of three stages. They are data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results of this study are: (1) the forms of social stratification in the novel Jejak Langkah by Pramoedya Ananta Toer based on Karl Marx's perspective consist of capitalists, landlords and workers; (2) the factors causing the emergence of social stratification in the novel Jejak Langkah by Pramoedya Ananta Toer based on Karl Marx's perspective are wealth and power, the level of education, and heredity; and (3) the impacts of social stratification on social classes in novel Jejak Langkah by Pramoedya Ananta Toer based on Karl Marx's perspective are class conflict, injustice, and the emergence of a desire to create change in society.
