Abstract

This study aims to see the effect of storytellingto the theory of mind on preschoolers. Subjects in this study were 24 preschoolers (M = 60.62, SD = 2.41), who got informed consent from parents. The design of this study is one group pretest-posttest design, measuring the theory of mind before and after intervention. Data were analyzed with Wilcoxon signed rank test. The measuring tool that is used in this study is the scale of theory of mind. Storytelling is given daily to children for 4 weeks. The result shows that the storytelling can increase the theory of mind (p < .05), effect size (η2 = .80). Implications of this study is giving storytelling will help to increase preschoolers’s theory of mind. So, they can imagine, think, and predict the action will happen in the story next. In addition, the interaction of subjects with researcher in storytelling sessions will also be able to stimulate verbal words that indicate an understanding of the feelings or thoughts of others.
