The paper explore how the role of traditional pesantren has been developing during reform era. Ethnographic approach is employed to explore the conception and practices of Pesantren Sidogiri concerning political change and community development By using community development approach, it argued that Islamic boarding school applied human right approach with its emphasis on equality, dignity and justice.
