Abstract

Assertive behavior is one of social-emotional skill for young children. This research aims to describe assertive profile in preschool children. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach to data obtained through observing the behavior of children during the activities in school, besides that interviews were also conducted to teachers and parents to obtain data about assertive behavior shown by children. The study was conducted on children aged 3 to 6 years and sixty children. The selection of research subjects used purposive sampling with the subject criteria being children who attended education in early childhood institutions with an age range of 4-6 years. The results showed that assertive behavior shown by children included the ability to express ideas, desires, and feelings, the ability to defend themselves, the ability to not be easily affected, and the ability to accept opinions from others. The findings indicate that at each stage of the age the intensity of the behavior is different. Based on the findings it needs to be explored more deeply about the factors that influence assertive behavior in early childhood.
