Abstract
World Class University has been an issue of conversation among universities. In recent years, both public and private universities have attempted to become World Class University. The argument that arises why universities strive to be world-class is in order to compete with world-class universities and at the same time produce graduates who can also compete with graduates from developed countries in the international world. These arguments appear basically because some recent realities as a result of globalization in various aspects of human life. The purpose of this research is to reveal and obtain in-depth knowledge of phenomena and a complete description of the contribution and role of the Language Development Center to World Class University in the State Islamic Religious Colleges. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach, with the type of case study research. Case study research has the characteristics of investigating phenomena in the context of real life and is carried out on ongoing events or symptoms and not events or symptoms that have been completed (ex post facto) by emphasizing the depth of analysis in certain, more specific cases. The results showed that the Language Development Centre has an important role and function for the university in welcoming the World Class University. The role and function of the Language Development Center in World Class University, namely as a supporter of the realization of the vision and mission of the institution by providing quality language development services, providing capacity management services, translation services and professional development. In addition, the support from the Rector greatly affects the direction and running of the Language Development Center in guarding university policies towards World Class University. A Language Development Centre with a strong and accountable administrative and financial management system can provide adequate support to manage the prepared program. And the existence of the Language Development Centre strongly supports the university towards a World Class University because without language it is impossible to call it an international class or university if then no foreign language is mastered.
