Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of virtual speaking skills learning strategy in the Special Program for Arabic Language Classes (PKPBA) of Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang and students opinions about it. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The research instruments were observation, interview and documentation. The data analysis technique used was descriptive qualitative data analysis. The results showed that: 1) the virtual speaking skills learning strategy in PKPBA of this university used WhatsApp and Zoom application. The steps are in several stages: (a) Introduction, (b) Learning: describing the material and learning objectives, showing the material slides on the zoom screen, reading conversational text and explains its content while students listen and ask questions if they do not understand, reading the text again and students imitate it, and appointing several students to practice conversation, (c) Evaluation: students send recorded conversations in the form of video/voicenote to lecturer number; lecturer provides feedback and explains common mistakes that occur in WhatsApp group, (e) Closing. 2) On students’s opinion, the virtual speaking skills learning strategy is very appropriate to be applied as an alternative to online learning in today's times that does not allow face-to-face learning in class.
