Abstract
This research is a research on methodology within the framework of philosophy science, examining the implementation of Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutical methodology in Islamic religious studies in which the tomb pilgrimage of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Gresik used as its study case. This study wants to explain the level of understandings of Muslims about the Holy Quran’s texts and hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peach be upon him) regarding tomb pilgrimage, forms of interpretation, and relation between understanding of religious scripts and understanding of religious behavior actions from its believers. Material objects of this research cover all forms of religious culture (the Holy Quran script and hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), verbal speech, kinetic motion and artifacts). The formal object of this research is the understanding obtained from the research material object mentioned above. The results of implementation of Ricoeur hermeneutics’ methodology in religious the Holy Quran’s Script and Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the case of the religious culture of tomb pilgrimage is the understanding of the differentiation in term of virtues. The understanding of the behavior actions varies, for example, unaware, bandwagon effect, traveling, enriching themselves, introspecting, and developing constructive self-understanding. From these understandings of various religious behavior actions of Muslims It can be generalized into two kinds of understandings, which are understanding of idealistic virtues and material pragmatic understanding. Thus the relationship between the understanding of religious texts and understanding of religious behavior actions from its believers can be seen, namely; positive correlation and negative correlation, even the change of the understanding.
