Abstract
This study aims to (1) determine student efforts in self-presentation. (2) Knowing the reasons why students of social science education at the State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang presented themselves based on dramaturgy theory in the Instagram display. This study uses a qualitative research method with a dramaturgical approach. The research sample amounted to 3 students majoring in Social Studies Education at UIN Malang. Data were collected using interview, observation, and documentation techniques. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive analysis. The results of the study show that (1) the reason why students majoring in Social Studies Education at UIN Malang is because actors want to be seen as ideal figures in front of their followers. (2) The students then made efforts to support his role as the figure he presented on Instagram. Such as editing photos or videos that will be uploaded, visiting viral places, to maintaining attitudes and behavior in front of the camera. Based on this research, it can be concluded that the activities carried out by students can be analyzed using dramaturgy theory. Instagram is a front stage where students present themselves. Meanwhile, performance support activities, where actors practice roles, make efforts to support their performances, and become themselves are referred to as back stages.
