Abstract
Everyone expects to live a serene peaceful and prosperous life. To achieve such state, one cannot be apart from being helpful cooperative, honest, charitable, and from sharing with others, which all the characters are belonging to prosocial behavior. In this modern life the prosocial behavior shows a decrease in the life of the society even in the university students as well. This study aims to investigate an effective model to predict students’ prosocial behaviors. The prediction is classified into two source of predictors, personal and environment factors. The personal predictor includes self-concept, agreement, empathy, and extraversion. The environment factors include democratic parenting. The subjects of the study are 885 students of an 'X' University in Malang, East Java. Data collection is conducted through self-concept scale to describe self-concept, empathy scale to describe empathy, extraversion scale to describe extraversion, and democratic parenting scale to describe democratic parenting. Besides, this research also used open questionnaire. To analyze the data a multiple regression analysis method adapting stepwise method is employed. The result of the study shows that selfconcept, agreeableness, empathy, democratic parenting and extraversion are able to predict prosocial behavior. All predictors have effective contribution of 45% to prosocial behavior. The conclusion is that the most effective model of predictors to predict students` pro-social behavior are self-concept, agreeableness, empathy, democratic parenting and extraversion. Prosocial behavior is low because of the limited infrastructure; most of the students have not undergone job internship which is aimed at honing the prosocial behavior, curricular activities which are less promoting prosocial behavior, extracurricular activities which are focused on increasing leadership and nature loving activities to develop human resources of personal nature.
