Abstract

Abstract. Innovation in developing the argumentation based learning model to improve understanding of science concepts and science process skills. The aim of this research is to obtain a valid learning model based argumentation to improve junior high school students’ conceptual understanding and understanding of science process skills. The learning model developed was validated in content and construct through Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The content validation in the category are very valid and reliable, construct validation are in the categories very valid, valid, and reliable. The results of the Wilcoxon signed rank statistical test calculation showed that students who were trained in argumentation had a better understanding of the concept. Another result obtained was that indicators of complete understanding of science process skills were achieved. The results of the calculation of the Wilcoxon signed rank statistical test showed that students’ understanding of science process skills between before and after learning that applied the argumentation based learning model had a better understanding of science process skills. This proves that the argumentation based learning model developed is valid and can improve students’ understanding of concepts and understanding of science process skills in the concept of physical change
