Abstract

Abstract
With the development of more complex theories of language, syllabus is now seen as an important instrument used by the teachers to achieve the objective of teaching and learning. Inspite of its great importance, only in the last decade syllabus design and content has got more attention. This research develops the syllabus of Listening comprehension I course focusing on its materials, English Department, Faculty of Humanity, Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang. Thus, the appropriate design for this is Research and Development (R&D). Here the researcher used Janice Yalden design which described that educational Research and Development is a process to develop and validate educational products. The syllabus development stages which were adapted from Yalden’s (1983) model in developing a syllabus. In doing need survey there are stage 1, four aspects are taken into consideration : (1) the communicative needs of the learners, (2) the instruments of collecting data, (3) the sources of information, and (4) the procedure of need survey. The instrument used are questionaires which were shared to students, teachers and alumni.
