Abstract

The utilization of face-veiling (niqab) within educational institutions remains a perennially contentious topic, provoking debates both within and beyond national borders. Several Islamic higher educations in Indonesia obligated the students to use niqab as their schools dress code. This study aims to scrutinize the influence of school dress codes on the overall quality of life in Indonesian Higher Education. This study offers indispensable perspectives on the subject of dress codes from the vantage point of the student body. In the midst of the ongoing and pervasive debate surrounding this topic, a study framed with this perspective becomes particularly crucial. This study explored 120 students in two Islamic Higher education in Indonesia. using mix method as a methodology of study, this study found several motives behind the policy of face-veiling obligation those are; social and cohesion motives, institution identity motives, economic motives, and Islamic motives. Several arguments also stated by both lecturers and students. The distinctive viewpoint adopted in this research can furnish valuable insights for school administrators contending with the challenges of formulating and executing school dress code policies.
