Abstract

Dental health is an essential part of overall bodily health. Islam, through the hadiths of Prophet Muham-mad SAW, recommends the use of siwak as a natural tooth-cleaning tool that carries spiritual value and provides health benefits. However, there remains a gap in the scientific understanding of the public regard-ing the integration of Islamic teachings with modern health principles, as well as limitations in research that comprehensively examines the compatibility of Islamic teachings with medical approaches. This study aims to analyze the concept of dental hygiene in hadith and compare it with modern medical findings. The study employs a descriptive qualitative literature review method by analyzing authentic hadith literature and current dental health scientific journals. The results show that siwak contains active compounds such as fluoride, silica, tannins, and natural antibacterial agents that are effective in preventing plaque, caries, and periodontal diseases, including for orthodontic users. The discussion emphasizes the alignment between Islamic teachings and medical principles, as well as the importance of integrative education that combines religious values with medical science. As a solution, it is necessary to develop siwak-based dental health products that comply with Islamic principles and provide public education on ethical boundaries in cosmet-ic dental care. The conclusion of the study shows that the integration of Islam and science can strengthen preventive efforts to maintain holistic dental health. Further research is recommended to conduct compar-ative clinical studies evaluating the effectiveness of siwak compared to modern dental cleaning tools.
