Abstract
Hadith so far only used as a formal legal is not a source of material, especially related to the character. Whereas the hadith is loaded with the content of characters, considering the hadith is the words, deeds and decrees of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, a person who is kamil and has the character of Qurani. One of the material hadith that can be explored is related to eating and drinking ethics, a daily activity that must be done all the people. Unfortunately eating and drinking is only understood as one of the primary needs that has no strategic implications. Yet when examined from the Quran and hadith, eating and drinking has a significant influence on the character of a person. For that reason, this research tries to see earlier strengthening character education through eating and drinking ethics according to the guidance of hadith in elementary school, educational institution which is loaded with developer of culture and character. This type of research is qualitative with case study approach. Data collection was done by participant observation and interview. The results showed that eating and drinking ethics in accordance with the guidance of hadith is very helpful to develop the character of children, especially love of hygiene and cultivate empathy for children.
