Abstract

The burgeoning population of international scholars within State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKI) has catalyzed a complex sociocultural shift, precipitating the widespread adoption of fluid linguistic repertoires. This phenomenon, known as translanguaging, is further nuanced by the distinctive pedagogical architecture of PTKI, which harmonizes traditional pesantren (Islamic boarding school) methodologies with contemporary academic frameworks.
Central to this inquiry is an examination of how these hybrid instructional environments—augmented by Artificial Intelligence (AI)—facilitate the negotiation and crystallization of student identity. Utilizing a qualitative case study at a prominent Islamic university characterized by high global mobility, this investigation scrutinizes the communicative strategies employed by diverse cohorts in their interactions with faculty and peers. The study further interrogates the efficacy of AI-driven multicultural platforms in mediating linguistic flexibility. By distilling the intersection of technological intervention and verbal versatility, the research aims to delineate an idealized model of identity formation. Ultimately, the results offer critical pedagogical insights, advocating for institutional policies that validate linguistic pluralism to enhance communal integration, cross-cultural esteem, and scholarly excellence among the global student body.
