Abstract
The book discusses three major themes: theory and concepts of “language and identity politics”(p. 15);“language and collective identity in multilingual states”(p. 59); and “language and identity politics in immigration societies”(p. 137). The aims of this book are to provide a theoretical and conceptual understanding of language and identity, how language and collective identity are implemented in multilingual states, such as Belgium and Switzerland, as well as language rights and endangered languages in Canada. Furthermore, this book also discusses three different cases of language and identity politics in the immigration sector particularly those in the USA, Switzerland, and Canada.
