Abstract

Culture of tolerance in Islamic education institutions has been formed for a long time. It can be seen in the management of diversity of students and the similarity of services without discriminating cultural background, ethnicity, race, social status, and economic status. Islamic religious education learning at the two institutions mentioned above has integrated multicultural values in Islamic religious education. The focuses of this study are: (1) How are multicultural values in learning Islamic education? (2) How to model the development of multicultural-based Islamic religious education learning to build a culture of tolerance? The type of research used is descriptive qualitative in which the determination of informants using purposive sampling and the method of collecting data by observation, interview or document review. The results of this study indicate: (1) Multicultural values that grow and develop in learning Islamic education is based on the example of Prophet Muhammad, namely hablum minannas based on morals and the nobility of the nation comes from the Qur'an and Hadith, the concept of planting multicultural values in learning Islamic education and with teaching methods, uswatun hasanah, guidance methods and habituation methods. (2) Learning models in learning Islamic education are integrativeholistic covering: formulating the vision, mission, and objectives of the madrasa, developing the competence of teaching and educational staff (attitudes, knowledge, and pedagogical), the form of multicultural curriculum.
