Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the theoretical basis of the internal quality assurance system (IQAS/SPMI) at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang Indonesia (UIN Malang). This research uses qualitative research methods and data analysis techniques with interactive analysis models. The research results can be concluded as follows: 1) Building a vision of producing Ulul Albab characters; 2)Building a scientific structure based on the integration of science and Islam with the metaphor of “the Tree of Science”; 3) Making religious values the foundation of qualit; 4) implementing strategic management, change management and transformative management; 5) Implementing the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System; QMS 9001: 2008 and QMS 9001: 2015; 6) Determining to become an Excellent University with an International Recognition and Reputation; 7) Motivating and stimulating the campus community in carrying out continuous development (continual improvement); 8) Balancing idealism and reality factors; 9) Based on Government Regulation and Statute of UIN Malang; 10) Referring to the quality theories of quality management experts; 11) Adhering to the principles of quality assurance including: a) commitment, b) internally driven, c)responsibility/inherent supervision, d) compliance with plans, e) evaluation, f) continuous quality improvement. This research produces a conceptual foundation of a comprehensive internal quality assurance system (SPMI) and as a guide for conducting quality standards, quality improvement and embodies a quality culture in order to build UIN Malang as a Center of Excellence as well as a Center of Islamic Civilization.
