Abstract

Arabic learning is carried out online, including speaking skills. This condition causes the absence of offline meetings between students and makes it awkward for them to have dialogue in Arabic with their friends. For that, lecturers must be creative to learn speaking skills that can still be achieved.One of them is by using the Whatsapp small groups. This research is descriptive qualitative type. This study aims to describe the Whatsapp in small group as a learning media for speaking skills. Respondents in this study were 39 students in the PKPBA (Intensive Arabic Language Learning Program) class PS7. Data obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation. This study indicates that learning speaking skills online using the Whatsapp small group media can foster comfortable interactions for students so that there is no feeling of awkwardness, shame, or fear of being wrong if they have to dialogue with other students. Also, learning speaking skills is helped using voice note and video call features on the Whatsapp small group media.
