Abstract

Anxiety can arise when speaking Arabic. No exception for the Postgraduate level. This study aims to reveal the level of anxiety of Arabic Language Education Postgraduate students in class D semester 2 2022/2023 State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang and the factors that cause anxiety in Arabic. The method used in this study is the mix method. Quantitative research is used to describe the anxiety level and the qualitative method is used to answer the problem of the factors that cause anxiety. The data collection technique used in this study was the distribution of anxiety questionnaires adopted from the FLCAS by Horwitz and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data in this study were analyzed using descriptive statistics while qualitative data were analyzed by collecting data, reducing data, drawing conclusions, and presenting data. The results of this study are, (1) the anxiety level of respondents is at an average level. There are only a few conditions that cause anxiety to speak Arabic. However, this anxiety actually made the students not back down and continued to study Arabic itself. (2) the factors that cause anxiety in Arabic for respondents are divided to internal like a lack of self-confidence and external factors like not currently in a supportive environment to speak Arabic.
