Abstract

Discussion Group - Group Project is a learning method that involves two or more individuals interacting with each other, exchanging experiences, information, and solving problems and requiring students to be active. The objectives of this study are: 1) to describe the reasons why teachers choose the Discussion Group (DG) – Group Project (GP) method to improve cooperation skills in social studies learning, 2) to describe the implementation of the discussion group - group project method to improve collaboration skills in social studies learning, 3) Describe the successes and obstacles to the application of the Discussion Group (DG) – Group Project (GP) method to Improve the Cooperation Skills of Class VII Students in Social Studies Learning. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data was collected in 3 ways, namely observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique was carried out by redaction of the data and then presenting and drawing conclusions or verification. The results of this study indicate that: 1) the reason the teacher applies the Discussion Group - Group Project method is to train students to be able to communicate well during discussions and the teacher can pay attention to each student's characteristics and know students' skills in working on a project, 2) the application of the method classified as good because students are active when they are in class, namely by conducting questions and answers with the teacher regarding learning materials. 3) success and obstacles are obtained at the time of learning. The advantage of this method is that it can stimulate students to be more creative, especially in providing ideas so that they can expand students' thinking, as well as develop activities, creativity, and student experience. Meanwhile, the obstacles lie in inadequate school facilities and infrastructure and some students who are passive due to lack of interest in learning.
