Abstract

This quasi-experimental study examined the communication apprehension among students in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) course. Specifically, it investigated apprehension levels before and after interventions, identified gender differences, and analyzed the relationship between communication apprehension and willingness to communicate. Thirty-eight TVET undergraduates were participated in both pre- and post-tests, utilizing the PRCA and WTC questionnaires. Paired-samples t-tests, independent-samples t-tests, and Pearson’s correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. The results showed that the undergraduates’ communication apprehension decreased significantly after the interventions. Gender analysis indicated that males were significantly more prone than females to experience communication apprehension. The findings also showed a moderate negative relationship between communication apprehension and the willingness to communicate. Undergraduates who reported greater communication apprehension are also reported to have a lower willingness to communicate. These results demonstrate the importance of incorporating the communicative confidence paradigm into pedagogical approaches in TVET learning contexts.
